Karen Bergin, of the Brookville Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa, is currently seeking applicants for various scholarships to be awarded in the spring. The State Organization of Tri Kappa awards college students with a variety of scholarships throughout Indiana and has done so since 1914. Students recognized come from local, province, and state levels. The awards and scholarships are as follows:
• 12+ $1000 Academic Scholarships - To apply, students are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate program, having completed at least one academic year following high school graduation. The Tri Kappa selection committee's criteria are academic achievement, strong goals, and extracurricular/work experiences.
• 2 $1000 Key/Vocational Scholarships - These scholarships are aimed at students who have no degree beyond high school and have had a lapse in education of five years. Students enrolled in an accredited school offering associates or baccalaureate degree and have completed one semester are welcome to apply.
**Vocational applicants should be enrolled in a post-high school accredited vocational, technical, or trade certification program. The criteria for these two scholarships are academic achievement, strong goals, and community/work experience.
• 3+ $1000 Fine Arts Scholarships - These are for students majoring in art, dance, drama, or music. When applying, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate degree program and have completed at least one academic year following high school graduation.
• 1 $1000 Twanette Nutter Fleming Music Award - Applicants must be enrolled in a fully accredited course of study leading to a teaching degree of music in private, public, or parochial schools. Applicants must have completed at least one academic year following high school graduation.
"Our area boasts numerous college students who are talented and would qualify for these scholarships. We are hopeful that we can identify those students so we may begin the process of submitting an application for State Tri Kappa scholarships," Bergin states.
Students wishing to apply for any of these scholarships are encouraged to contact Karen Bergin (Scholarship Chair) at 765-309-5436.
