As we slowly open the door to a new month and a new year, many of us find ourselves less enthusiastic than the people we see on the internet.

Everyone seems to start shouting, “New year, new me!” They are posting their healthy eating plans, workout schedules, and we even seem fascinated to watch these folks reorganize their kitchens. While I think that is all admirable, winter is hard for a lot of people (including me).

When I get home from work during the winter months, I want to put my sweats on and not leave the house. I hate being cold, snow (unless it's on Christmas morning), scraping ice, and having to wear a coat. What I'm not saying is that the winter months can make me sad – can you relate?
If you can, UCPL would like to help. Our shelves are filled with wonderful books, audiobooks, and DVDs. We can even deliver materials to your doorstep (call us and we will walk you through the process, 765-458-5355). We also have several programs that happen at the library every week, too! Zumba, yoga, bingo, euchre, and our Reminisce program are all very popular with adults and seniors.

New this year is our very first “Puzzle Swap!” Our family loves to do puzzles, but I hate buying them. We complete it, break it all apart, put it back in the box, and into a closet. UCPL staffer, Trudi Hadden, suggested that UCPL host a “Puzzle Swap.” If you have a gently used and complete puzzle, we'd love to accept your donation. Then patrons can simply grab a puzzle when they come in, complete it, and return it for someone else to enjoy! Puzzles are a great way of keeping our minds active and giving a left hook to those winter blues.

Lastly, we'd like to encourage you to check out our StoryWalk at Whitewater Memorial State Park! A StoryWalk is children's piece of literature taken apart and displayed page by page, along a walking trail. Our StoryWalk is active all year and we change the story out seasonally. UCPL's StoryWalk is located on the easy side of Red Springs Trail. Please park at the parking lot next to the dam to begin. There is even a secret word that you can tell the Whitewater Memorial State Park office staff for a child's goodie bag if you so choose! This is a great activity to stretch the legs, see some beautiful scenery, and give the final blow to those winter blues.

Winter is tough, UCPL wants to help. We hope that you will check out the Puzzle Swap and StoryWalk, but more than that, we hope you will stop in and visit with us. We are your library and the patrons of this community are what makes it so special.
