The Greensburg Lady Pirates and Franklin County Lady Wildcats faced off in an EIAC matchup on Saturday evening. The two teams came into the game sitting in the top half of the conference standings. With EIAC player of the year candidate Leah West in early foul trouble, coach Jason Simpson relied on his talented freshman class to keep the Lady Bucs in the game. Franklin County took advantage in the paint with the absence of West and Nicole Mears put up 22-points leading the Lady Cats in scoring. Greensburg had no trouble scoring without their big, freshman Aly Powers powered her team throughout the contest and dropped 27-points on FC as her team rolled to a nine-point victory collecting their tenth win of the season and they are now 4-1 in EIAC games. The loss for the Lady Cats puts them under .500 in conference play with a 2-3 record. FC was able to stay close to the Lady Pirates until a third quarter run put the visitors up by double digits. Greensburg never let the Lady Cats get close after that and pinned them with their fifth loss of the season.

The first score of the contest was a three-point basket from Greensburg's Carlee Adams. The Lady Cats responded with Josie Rolfes getting an open look that got FC on the board. Adams hit another three and it was 6-2 in favor of the Lady Pirates. Nicole Mears and Kassidy Schell tied the game up when they each scored. The Lady Bucs freshman point guard Powers scored the next four points in the frame for her squad. FC kept the points coming with Bailey Kaiser and Rolfes scoring, and a free throw from Lauren Stacy gave FC a 14-10 lead. Carmen Thackery ended the period with a shot from outside the arc bringing GCHS within a point of the hosts. The score was Franklin County 14 Greensburg 13 after one quarter. 

Powers scored the first four points in period two and the Lady Pirates took a 17-14 lead. Rolfes sank two freebies, then hit a jumper and FC was back on top 18-17. Held scoreless West was whistled for her third foul and landed a spot on the bench for the rest of the half. Mears took advantage and scored four of FC's next six points. Greensburg didn't slow down without West, getting another Adams long ball, five more points from Powers, and Thackery connected for her second deep shot giving the Lady Bucs the lead going into halftime, 29-24. The five-point Greensburg lead was the largest in the first half for either team. 

Greensburg's other freshman guard Mary Harmon got herself in the scoring column to start the third frame, Schell then scored the next four-points for FC all from the charity stripe. Harmon collected an old fashion three-point play that started a 10-0 run over the next four minutes and Greensburg jumped out to a 41-28 lead. The Lady Cats stopped the run when Schell hit from downtown then Mears scored, but Powers finished the third period scoring the final seven points, and the Lady Pirates led 48-33 through three quarters. Harmon pushed the GCHS lead to 20 by scoring the first five-points to start the fourth period. A 5-0 run for the Lady Cats was stopped by a pair of Powers free throws and the score was 55-38 midway through the final frame. Powers and Harmon did the rest of the Lady Bucs scoring on the night all from the free throw line, Harmon was four of six and Powers hit seven of her eight attempts pushing their total score to 64. Rolfes and Mears tried to battle back with each player scoring four points over the final three minutes, but the Greensburg Lady Pirates held on to win 64-55. 

Franklin County was led by Mears who finished the game with a double double (22 points, 12 rebounds), Ka. Schell 16, Rolfes 12, Kaiser 4, Stacy 1.

Greensburg was led by Powers 27-points, Harmon finished with 13, Adams 12, Thackery 6, West and Sarah Stapp finished with 3 each. 

FC is now 10-5 on the season and will travel to Connersville (7-10) on Friday for an EIAC matchup.
