At the Jan. 5 Brookville Town Council (BTC) meeting Terry Mitchum was nominated by Earl Moore as Police Chief. Chuck Campbell, who had previously recused himself from voting in the disciplinary hearing of Terry Mitchum, seconded the motion. The motion was passed three to two, with  Bridget Hayes in favor and Curtis Ward and Brooke Leffingwell opposed.  The decision came after Mitchum and Lt. Ryan Geier were terminated by the previous BTC members in Dec. Ward who was BTC president in 2022 wanted the record to show he believed appointing Mitchum as chief set the town of Brookville up for future lawsuits reminding the board of the pending tort claim filed against the Brookville Police Department (BPD). Ward also shared the insurance company raising the premium and deductible should be noted.
