EDC looks ahead to READI 2

July 20, 2023 at 12:18 p.m.

With the state’s second round of the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) cash awards possibly coming as early as September, Franklin County’s Economic Development Commission addressed the program at a very brief meeting Monday morning.

During the first READI cycle, president John Palmer said the county paid around $20,000 to the Southeast Indiana group to cover inclusion in things like planning grants and contingency studies.

Palmer noted there’s a similar arrangement for the second rollout, Franklin County needing to pay $17,999 as its portion of the $100,000 payment. This was based on population numbers among the six participating counties –others are Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland and Union.

EDC had about $28,000 in its coffers under contractual services, said the president, so he wanted to commit to half the roughly $18,000 bill. FC Redevelopment Commission would presumably cover the other half.

Member Greg Orschell made a motion to pay the split funding for projections provided by Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group, Indianapolis. Motion passed unanimously.

A second deadline came and went for bids on the PreservINg Main Street Façade Grant and member Jessica Hansel (Brookville special projects director) announced there would be a third bidding process after no bids coming during round one and the one submitted in June coming in over budget. Hansel added advertising would continue through next week, with the next bid deadline and opening scheduled for July 27, 10 a.m.

Another pre-bid conference would take place July 20 only if requested by a bidder. Partners RATIO design (Indianapolis) and Administrative Resources association (Columbus) would likely be involved again.

Next meeting is Aug. 14, 11:30 a.m.
