“Prevention is the Cure” is proud to sponsor the upcoming Live in Liberty event on August 2, through funding from the Union County Health Department.

Union County Project Coordinator Kay Riker-Peyton says of the sponsorship, “One of the goals of the grant ‘Prevention is the Cure’ is to provide substance-free events for the community and its youth.”

The project’s message "Be the Majority" is a part of the grant's social norms campaign, in hopes of dispelling the myths around local teenage alcohol, tobacco and drug use. When Union County students took the Indiana Youth Survey in February 2022, results showed most kids believe their peers are drinking and smoking. In reality, the survey showed that actual usage rates are significantly lower than what people perceive.  In other words, everyone else is NOT doing it, according to survey results.  Pressure to fit in has long been a factor in driving up usage rates, and this campaign hopes to make it clear that the majority of high school students in Union County live alcohol, drug and tobacco free.

Join them August 2 on the courthouse lawn in Liberty as the Live in Liberty concert series continues, featuring music by Jr. Davis and the Junkyard Dogs. As always, there will be FREE family-friendly activities for all ages, and food/beverages available to purchase. This month’s event also offers school supplies and haircuts for kids.  Bring a lawn chair and join in this community-building event Wednesday, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
