Dorothy Connaway Barnard, 95, of Liberty, passed away on July 20, 2023, at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle.

Dorothy Connaway Barnard was born March 29, 1928, to Paul and Ester Williamson Connaway in the Mt. Pleasant community of Union County. She graduated from Short High School in 1946. She was secretary-bookkeeper to the superintendent and school board of Union County School Corp from 1946-53.  In 1952 she was awarded a teacher-clerk license from the Indiana Dept. of Education which was comparable to a bachelor's degree in business administration. She assisted part-time in the Union County Treasurer's office from 1977-96 and served on the Union County Board of Tax Review for 19 years. She served for many years as an officer of the S.H.S.-Union County Alumni Assoc. while serving as treasurer in the year 2000, she suggested the John W. Short Memorial Plaque which has been placed in the atrium of the new addition of the Union Co High School.  She married Donald Barnard August 1, 1953. They owned a farm east of Liberty on St. Rd. 44 from 1957 until Dorothy sold it in Nov. 2010. 

Donald passed away October 2007. Dorothy attended the Greenwood Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons: Michael Barnard of Liberty, and Jack Barnard and wife, Carlyle of Miamisburg, Ohio. Also, two nieces Marilyn (Bob) Jackson of Camden, Ohio, and Linda (Chris) Rosenberger of Liberty. Her parents, husband and two sisters Eleanor Napier and Iva Clark preceded her in death. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00p.m., on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Shelley Dodson of Brownsville United Methodist Church.
