Spartan freshman wins state in 200

BLOOMINGTON – Ahniyah Bennett, 9th-grader at Connersville High School, captured the state championship in the 200-meter dash at Saturday's finals hosted by Indiana University.
The CHS freshman broke the tape in 24.5 seconds, a relatively comfortable margin over runner-up Maya Taylor of Fishers (24.78). Bennett was also 5th in the 100 finals (12 sec. flat).
East Central's 4x400 relay team of Rachel Campbell, Callie Bentley, Erika Wells and Jorjia Ferguson took 4th (3:55.87). The Lady Trojan 4x800 squad (Wells, Bentley, Campbell, Ashtyn Gindling) placed 6th in 9:18.2. Greensburg junior Emarie Jackson was runner-up in shot put (48-0.5) and 3rd in discus (146-10).
The night before in the boys finals, Milan's Benjamin Riehle placed 16th overall in the 400 (49.61).
