Although off-year elections in Franklin County aren’t nearly as intriguing as those in midterm or presidential years, there was some recent activity at the county clerk’ office when it came to filings in the town of Laurel.
Five Republicans are up for at-large seats on Laurel Town Council. They are Tracy Brumfiel, Peter Connolly, Adam Hornsby, Rebecca Jones and Danielle Roberts. In addition, Republican Garold (Henry) Bulmer filed for town clerk-treasurer. The latter position is currently held by Linda Adams.
Also of some interest to county residents is the Batesville municipal election. Republican John Irrgang has filed for mayor to succeed the outgoing Mike Bettice. Bradley Bergquist is a Republican running for the city judgeship and Paul Gates (R) filed for clerk-treasurer. For common council, District 1 has one Republican (Jerry Ertel) and one Democrat (Darrick Cox) interested. Republicans also filed in Dist. 3 (Beth Enneking), Dist. 4 (Brad Dreyer) and at-large (Melissa Tucker).
It should be noted that District 4 now lies entirely in Franklin County’s Ray Township, largely north of I-74 to Pocket Road and south of the interstate including neighborhoods north and west of the Franklin/Ripley county line. Irrgang currently represents Dist. 4 on Batesville council.
Indiana’s municipal primary election is Tuesday, May 2.
