Cats compete at Anderson University

The 2023 indoor track and field season continued Saturday for the Franklin County Wildcats as they competed in the Blue and White Relays at Anderson University. Athletes continued making a push for a high enough ranking in the state to make it to the indoor finale at Indiana University this coming weekend.
Top placement was the girls 4x200 meter team, taking third place in a time of 1:51 flat. The team of sophomore Mackenzie “Z” Brzezinski, junior Audrey Harper, soph Ella Flannery and senior Madison Merritt placed sixth in the 60m hurdles event, clearing the obstacles in 10.41 to set a new FCHS indoor mark. This spring performance makes them the No. 2 seed at the state meet. Emma Rosenberger tied for sixth place in the long jump, leaping to 15 feet and an inch.
The girls 4x400 team placed seventh in a time of 4:26.66. Cole Freese was tied for seventh after final calculations on pole vault, springing to a 10-feet finish. Flannery also shared seventh place, hers coming in high jump at 4-10.
In eighth was the boys 4x400 team (3:48.27). Rosenberger added an eighth-place finish in pole vault, going over the bar at 8-6. Dani Bulach ranked 9th in long jump at 14-10.5.
The boys 4x800 team of Nick Perry, Hunter Marshall, Devin Martin and Earl Carr came in 16th overall (9:13.58), in the process setting a new FC school mark by nine seconds. Senior Phoenix Simons was 18th in 60 hurdles, racing through at 10.09 seconds. Harper finished 19th in the 60-meter dash, her time being 8.49. In high jump, Dalton Ward tied for 19th after sticking a 5-4.
The girls 4x800 relay team came in 20th (12:16.3). Keyona Madden tied for 20th in pole vault, reaching a height of 7 feet even.
The Hoosier State Relays are Saturday, 4 p.m., at Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington. Final state rankings were to be released Tuesday.
