Lady Cats’ softball

The Franklin County Lady Wildcats' softball team traveled to New Castle on Saturday and put up three early runs. They added five more in the fifth inning and held on for an 8-5 victory. Josie Rolfes got FC on the board in the top of the first with a double that scored Kassidy Schell. The Lady Trojans added a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game up at 1-1. Brooke Stang slapped a two-RBI double in the second to put FC up 3-1. New Castle's Madi Moffett hit a solo home run in the third to make it a one-run game. The Lady Cats increased their one-run lead in the top of the fifth when Bailey Kaiser picked up an RBI single, then Annie Hoff doubled, grabbing two RBI and Hoff was able to score on an error to give FC an 8-2 lead. The Lady Trojans scored in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single, then added two more runs in the final frame to come within three runs. Rolfes earned the win for FC after tossing five innings in the circle and striking out seven. Bella Lee threw two innings of relief work, collecting four strikeouts. Schell and Rolfes each had a pair of hits to lead FC, who collected nine as a team.
The Lady Cats attempted to keep Monday's game in Lawrenceburg close. The game was tied going into the bottom of the fifth when four Lady Tiger runs put them up by four and another two runs in the sixth gave FC their eighth loss this season. The Lady Cats scored in the second after Maci Lake drove in a run on a double. FC took the lead in the top of the second when Stang led off the inning with a home run. LHS added two runs in the bottom of the frame and retook the lead 3-2. The Lady Cats tied the game up in the fifth with a Kensee Ferman RBI that scored Madison Perleburg and a Kaiser single that scored Stang, giving the Lady Cats a 4-3 lead. An RBI double for the Lady Tigers tied the game and two back-to-back RBI singles put LHS up 7-4. A homer and an RBI single for Lawrenceburg added two more runs, and FC finished the top of the seventh with a groundout giving the Lady Tigers the 9-4 win. Stang, Kaiser, and Lake each had two hits. Rolfes took the loss after four innings of work in the circle. Lee tossed two innings and allowed four earned runs.
The Lady Cats (14-8) travel to Aurora Thursday to take on South Dearborn (13-6) in an EIAC matchup.
Vs. Batesville (May 2)
Last Tuesday, a game with Batesville opened with a 0-0 game after three. It was then 6-5 FC after five before the Wildcats surged for four more. Final was 10-5. Ferman and Ki. Schell had three hits each and Stang two. Rolfes knocked a 2-run homer in the sixth. Rolfes also pitched, striking out seven. Lee got the save.
Vs. Connersville (May 4)
An early 3-run inning by the Spartans was the difference in a CHS win of 5-2. Each team had seven hits, Ka. Schell swatting two. Rolfes had an RBI. Lee pitched all six innings.
