Stortz leads FC track into regional

ST. LEON – Senior Christian Stortz turned on the burners at Thursday's boys track and field sectional hosted by East Central. The speedster swept the 100 and 200-meter dashes and anchored the winning 4x100 team started by Dalton Ward, Wyatt Bowling and Owen Harvey.
His time in the 100 was 11.21 seconds and his 200 time was 22.84. The 4x1 team sped to a finish of 43.9. Along with sophomore Cole Freese's win in the pole vault (11 ft., 6 in.), Franklin County placed 4th overall with 61.5 points as the host Trojans were in first.
The Lady Wildcats competed at EC Tuesday, taking 5th with 57 points as the Lady Trojans completed the week's sweep of team competition. Moving on to regional for the Lady Cats are Emma Rosenberger (2nd in pole vault; 9 ft & 3rd in long jump; 16-6), Ella Flannery (2nd in high jump; 4-10) and the quick 4x100 (Audrey Harper, Flannery, Mackenzie Brzezinski, Madison Merritt; 2nd in 50.39 seconds) and 4x400 (Flannery, Brzezinski, Merritt, Esther George; 3rd in 4:14.87) teams.
Scoring in 5th for FC were Clayton Lunsford in shot put (47-0.5), boys 4x800 (Hunter Marshall, Devin Martin, Nick Perry, Earl Carr; 8:57.34), Dani Bulach in long jump (15-9.75), girls 4x800 (Jacy and Jaelyn Grimmeissen, Raegan Minnitti, Madesyn Sunderhaus; 11:23.78) and George in 100 hurdles (17.19). Of these, Bulach was regional-bound.
In 6th were Keyona Madden in pole vault (8 ft.), Keegan Clark in pole vault (T-6th; 9 ft.), Ward in the 100 (11.9), Brandon Willis in the 400 (53.82) and boys 4x400 (Ward, Carr, Willis, Stortz; 3:40.8).
Adding 7th placements were Marshall in the 800 (2:13), Minnitti in the 1600 (6:08.33) and Merritt in the 100 (13.54). George was 8th in 300 hurdles (51.65) and Taylan Brewer 8th in the 400 (1:05.91).
The girls regional was Tuesday at Franklin Community (results not available). Boys travel to Greenfield-Central Thursday.
