Franklin County's track and field regional qualifiers competed at two separate venues last week, the girls visiting Franklin Community Tuesday and the boys traveling to Greenfield-Central Thursday.

A few Wildcats made some noise, though none were able to reach this weekend's state finals.

Senior Christian Stortz finished off an excellent sprinting career by placing 6th in the 200-meter dash (23.08). He anchored the 4x100 relay team with Dalton Ward, Owen Harvey and Wyatt Bowling that placed 6th (43.74). Sophomore Cole Freese tied for 7th in pole vault, getting up to 12 feet in height.

The girls 4x100 – Audrey Harper, Mackenzie Brzezinski, Ella Flannery, Madison Merritt – ended a stellar 2023 campaign by placing 5th (49.63).

Flannery, Merritt and Brzezinski returned along with Esther George to take 9th in the 4x400 (4:12.91). Flannnery placed 10th in high jump (4-10). Dani Bulach was 9th in the long jump (15-8.5).

Stortz earlier had the 11th-best time in the 100 sprint (11.49). Emma Rosenberger was 13th in both long jump (15-4.25) and pole vault (8-6).

Of note locally, Connersville freshman Ahniyah Bennett won the 100 and 200 at regional and is the fourth seed in the former at state. The meet is Saturday.
