Donna J. Hood

Donna J. Hood, 84, of Rushville, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2023. She was born on June 8, 1939, in Rushville to the late Fred Butts and Margaret Rankin. She married Roman Hood on July 14, 1956 at St Mary Church. Donna is survived by her husband Roman, four sons, Steve (Margy), Indianapolis, Mike (Linda), Rushville, Thomas (Valerie), Rushville, Andy (Molly), Fishers, and one sister, Beth (Dave), Fordyce, Ohio.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Lee, Providence, RI, Sam Hood, Boston, Mass., Jenna Hood, Indianapolis, Kayla Hood, Indianapolis, Bradley (Lauren) Hood, Ballwin, Missouri, Brittanni (Mitch) Eavey, Lafayette, Anthony “Drew” (Katie) Hood, El Lago, Tex., Gregory (Holly) Hood, Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Ella Hood, Fishers, Maddy Hood, Fishers and six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Lee, Providence, Brooklynn and Brayden Hood, Ballwin, BB-8 Hood, El Lago and Landyn Hood, Mountain Top.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son John and her sister Linda (Glenn) Ellis.

Donna enjoyed life to the fullest and devoted much of her time to giving back to her community. She attended Rush County Schools. She worked as a nurse's aide in O.B. at Rush Memorial Hospital and later at Rushville Elementary School in the cafeteria where she was well known for her delicious yeast rolls. She was a long-time active member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was a member of Sodality Ladies Group and a past member of St. Mary School Board.  

She and her husband were members of the Roadrunner Square Dance Club and were lifetime members of the Pioneer Engineer Club where she enjoyed working at the souvenir shop at the annual steam engine show. They also enjoyed many motorcycle trips with their friends and being snowbirds in Florida during the wintertime. Donna was also a Red Hatter for many years. In addition, she won several ribbons at the Rush County and Indiana State Fair for her crafts including ceramics, knitting, and crocheting.  

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 8, 2023 at St Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Perronie, Celebrant.    Burial was at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery.
