County dancers from 6th-12th grade corralled several trophies over the weekend, traveling to Saturday's Showcase America Unlimited national championship competition held at the Lawrenceburg Event Center.

The Franklin County High School Dancz Catz, coached by Erin Bath, won first place and Showcase Stars in both the Open and Kick competitions. In both cases, the Catz were selected as a top-10 choice for Best of the Best.

Franklin County Middle School's Dance Energy squad, led by Lauren Lunsford, captured first place nationally in the Jazz and Open divisions; the team received a Showcase Star in Jazz and Ultimate Star for Open.

Bath, nominated by her dancers and athletic director Denny Dorrel, was the winner of the Showcase America Director of the Year.

The Dancz Catz also garnered a runner-up in Pom (Showcase Star and bronze medal for Best of the Best) and a third-place nod for Hip-Hop (Showcase Star/top 10 Best of the Best).

FCMS claimed second in Hip-Hop (Ultimate Star) and third in Pom (Ultimate Star). The Hip-Hop routine was chosen Most Entertaining and the Open netted them a Unique and Fabulous award. Dance Energy was top-5 Best of the Best in Jazz and Pom while top-10 in Open and Hip-Hop.

Seniors on the Dancz Catz this year were Jaylee Cregar, Gracie Graf, McKenna Metz, Brianna Meyers and Allie Routh.
