Lady Pats open TEC with 21-1 five-inning Hagerstown rout

After shutting out North Decatur, 6-0, the Union County Lady Patriots came back two days later to win their first test in the Tri-Eastern Conference. UC defeated Hagerstown 21-1, in five innings.

Coach Scott Gray was pleased with the good start on the mound and at the plate.

Lady Patriot’s pitcher Chloe Greene set the bar high in the first three innings – nine batters and nine strikeouts.

Thirteen UC batters went to the plate in the first inning, collected eight hits (including 3 extra-base hits), and a walk to lead 9-0.

“We needed to hit the ball on the ground in this wind tonight and they did that,” Gray said. “And they hit the ball hard.”

UC added 4 runs in the second inning, 7 in the third and one in the fourth.
Hagerstown put a runner on base in the fourth and brought her, home on the Lady Tigers only hit in the game.

Freshman pitcher Bailey Mathews held Hagerstown to three batters in the fifth with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout.

Freshman Annalea Adams, Greene and Tori Russell were 4-for-4 at the plate. Adams finished with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Greene had an RBI and scored 3 runs and Russell scored 4 runs and had 2 RBI.

Junior Tori Kelley and Freshman Hannah Pyle shared pitching duties for the Lady Tigers. Kelley allowed 12 runs on 12 hits, 5 walks and struck out 2. Pyle gave up 9 runs on 7 hits, walked two and one strike out.
