Track win for Wildcat boys

Franklin County boys track and field had an excellent 2021 South Dearborn Invitational performance last Thursday, winning by 55 points (165-110) over runner-up Harrison (Ohio). The Lady Wildcats were also solid with a 3rd-place finish, their 87 points just a tick behind second place S. Dearborn’s 88. The Harrison Lady Wildcats won going away with 146.5 points.

Most impressive were the Wildcat relay teams, as each crossed the finish line in first. In the 4x800 meter race, the quartet of Drew Grant, Harmon and Hunter Marshall and Denver Meier were over eight seconds ahead of runner-up Oldenburg Academy (8:47.06-8:55.53). Meier and Grant returned with Chad Cox and Tyreke Carr to claim the 4x400 in a time of 3:43.78. The crew of Hunter Tschaenn, Grant, Carr and Jacob Schatzle won the 4x100 (44.39).

Schatzle was also first in long jump, his leap of 21-feet-6-inches over two feet ahead of the runner-up. He wasn’t done as the junior secured the 100m dash in 11.38 seconds, edging Tschaenn (11.6). Tschaenn was able to win the 200 with a time of 23.65; Carr was next at 24.1. The Wildcat senior also took the 400 with a lap of 53.82; in third was Carr (54.98). Another winner was Sam Westerfeld, who threw the shot put 45-08. Cameron Smith was runner-up, heaving it 43-10.5.

Grace Kruthaupt was a triple winner for the Lady Cats. The senior won 300 hurdles (50.14), high jump (5 ft.) and the 200 (27.56).
Senior Lauren Kelley was runner-up in the 800 (2:36.79) and 1600 (5:45.12). Cox placed 2nd in high jump (5-08) and Smith earned a red ribbon in discus (136-05). Zayne Reed’s pole vault of 8-06 was good for second place.

Westerfeld won a white ribbon in long jump (19-00.5). Placing fourth were Kamryn Dozier (400; 1:07.14), Kruthaupt (100 hurdles; 17.55), the girls 4x400 team (Dozier, Kelley, Kaitlyn Brunemann, Madison Merritt; 4:43.96), Bailey Parkhurst (shot; 32-2.25), Chloe Heffron (pole vault; 6-06), Anthony Moore (discus; 119-03), Balou Simons (pole vault; 8 ft.) and Cole Rapp (110 hurdles; 19.84).

Adam Grant was 5th in pole vault (7-06) and D. Grant 5th in the 800 (2:12.74). Dozier took 5th in the 100 (13.95) and Audrey Harper the same in long jump (14-9.25).

Harper claimed 6th in the 100 (14 flat); also there were Lauren Seibert (pole vault; 5-06) and Harmon Marshall (800; 2:14.95).

Brunemann earned 7th in pole vault (5-06) and Parkhurst 7th in discus (84-08). In 8th were A. Grant (3200; 11:51.51), Phoenix Simons (110 hurdles; 20.75) and Hunter Marshall (1600; 5:20.28).

This is a jam-packed week for track as the Cats visited Connersville and Richmond ahead of the East Central Invitational (JV Thursday, varsity Friday).
