He was born on Oct. 3, 1928 in Liberty to the late Gardner Waddell and Anna Waddell.
On September 25, 1953 he married Christean Moore in Connersville.
Garland served as a corporal during the Korean War in the United States Army from Jan. 19, 1951 until December 26, 1952.
He was a member of Connersville Baptist Temple.
Garland retired from D&M with over 30 years of employment.
Along with his wife of 68 years, he will be greatly missed by his son, Stephen (Judy) Waddell; grandchildren, Benjamin (Christi) Waddell, Betsy (Scott) Berry and Mason Waddell; great-grandchildren, Judah, Jack and Berkley Berry, Justin, Olivia and Julia Waddell; brothers, Glendon Waddell and Rondal Waddell; and sisters, Edith Roberts and Janice (Harry) Potter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Emily Waddell; great-granddaughters, Ruby and Paige Berry; sisters, Geneva Bane, Juanita Barker, Irene Burton, Geraldine Breen, Edwin Waddell, Gailen Waddell and William Darrell Waddell.
Visitation for Garland will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St., Connersville, Indiana 47331. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with George Nester officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fayette County Honor Guard.
