The Union County wrestling team handed Triton Central a 36-30 setback last week at Roy E. Stevens Gymnasium.

“We wrestled excellent against Triton Central,” UC coach AJ Bryson said. “Six out of eight wrestlers got pins and that accounted for all of our team points and enough to win the whole meet.”

UC’s six-point pin winners included Carson Whitley (113), Jesus Aquino-Morales (120), Evan Wolf (145), Jordon Takara (152), Aiden Evans (160), Nate Reffitt (285).

“Coach Rudnick and I stressed before the meet that if a wrestler was in a position to win the match, they should wrestle for the pin and collect the full six points,” Bryson said.

“Aiden Evans wrestled last and he showed a lot of guts to control the match the way he did with a team victory in the balance. He went out there and just got his job done without seeming fazed by the task. Our heavyweight (Reffitt) getting the pin was good senior leadership on his part and set the tone for the rest of the team.”

Patriots host Trojans

Union County travels to Winchester Thursday, Dec. 16 (tonight).
The Patriots are idle until Dec. 28 and 29 when they compete at Connersville’s two-day Spartan Classic at the Spartan Bowl.
