Jack DeWayne Wilkerson, age 68, of Liberty, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 4, 1953 in Connersville, he was one of three children born to the late Ralph V. and Betty L. (Collins) Wilkerson. He spent his childhood years in Old Fairfield, until his family was forced to relocate to Union County, due to the Brookville Lake project. He was a graduate of Short High School in Liberty, with the class of 1972, and completed trade school with a degree in drafting.

He used his mechanical skills as a journeyman Machinist at Roots Dresser Industries and its successors in Connersville for 43 years until his retirement in 2015.

Jack was active in several organizations and his community. A member of the NHRA, having built and raced drag cars for many years. He was also a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, and enjoyed attending shoots locally as well as at Friendship. He was also a lifelong horse and pony enthusiast, having owned and showed Appaloosa horses. He loved trail riding with Debbie, and old friends around Whitewater State Park. Jack was currently president of the Old Fair-field/Sims Cemetery Association. His family and friends were his top priorities, and he was always there to lend a hand.

He attended St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Connersville.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 48 years, Debra; his son, Christopher DeWayne Wilkerson of Liberty; two grandchildren, Kristin M. Wilkerson and Chris Dylan Wilkerson; a sister, Cynthia (Rick) Doulen of Fountain City; his mother-in-law, Elsie Davis of Connersville; in- laws, Bill (Tina) Davis, Randy Davis, Mike (Brenda) Davis; aunt, Elizabeth Collins; uncles, John Furbay and Jerry Furbay; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Daniel L. Wilkerson, grandparents, Roy Collins, Dale and Alice Wilkerson, Martha and Clyde Furbay; sisters-in-law, Robin Davis and Joyce Davis, as well as his father-in-law, Clifford Davis.

Family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Dustin Boehm will officiate the Catholic funeral rite at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville. Burial will follow in Sims Cemetery in New Fairfield.
