After a rare loss to Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference colleague Batesville last Tuesday, the Franklin County wrestling team defended its home turf well by capturing the FC Invitational Saturday.

At BHS, the Bulldogs eked out a 42-39 win. Senior Eric Schwab pinned Andrew Jones at 182 pounds and freshman Cole Freese did the same against Layne Phillips at 113. 132-pound senior Andrew Merritt won by fall over Conner Campbell and senior Ben Maze did likewise versus Mason Neeley at 145.

Junior Lendon Sizemore won by decision over Christian Garcia, 7-3, in the 220 bout. Forfeits went to freshman Colin Troyer at 106 and Roger Zurborg at 120. The Dogs' Josh Mobley pinned Hayden Newell in the 170 match and Tacoma Nicholas pinned FC freshman Avery Crouch at 126. BHS also got pins from Damien Dance over Karter Smith at 152 and David Maher over Dakota Schwab at 138. FC surrendered forfeits at 195, 285 and 160.

FC shut out Boone County, Kentucky, 78-0, on Saturday. Zurborg, Crouch, Maze (138), Breck Bohman (160), Newell and E. Schwab all won by fall and Sizemore won by injury default. The Cats also handled Shelbyville, 69-6.

Merritt, Maze, Owen Darwish (145), Kaden Welch (152), Bohman, Newell and E. Schwab won pin victories. Crouch won by injury default while Sizemore, Jadon Napier (195) and Freese won by decision.

The bout with EIAC rival Connersville was close to the end, with FC winning 40-36. Against Hagerstown, FC posted a 78-6 win.

Maze pinned CHS' Carson Boulware and Bohman pinned Wesley Wise. Merritt won by major decision over Aric Fox. FC benefited from forfeits at 106, 113, 120 and 195. Sizemore lost 6-2 to Levi Degroat and Gavin McGuire defeated Darwish 8-2. FC gave up forfeits at 126 and 285. Jahmel Carter, Orlan Foster and Jared Barret won by fall for the Spartans.

Going 4-0 at home were Troyer, Freese, Zurborg, Merritt, Maze, Bohman and Napier. Crouch finished 3-0 on the day.

The Spartan Classic is next, Dec. 28-29 in Connersville.
