CAMDEN, OHIO – Early turnovers and an aggressive Preble Shawnee Arrows' squad did in the Union County Patriots in holiday tournament play Tuesday in the Buckeye State.

The Pats were held to single digits on the scoreboard for most of the first half while the Arrows sliced and diced to a 26-9 lead. By halftime, the score read 31-13. UC found the basket with more frequency in the second half to make the final a more respectable 62-47.

A basket by Keaghan Coyle gave the Patriots a quick 2-0 lead and after a long 2-2 stalemate, Austin Wollyung deposited a three to make it 5-2 with 5:10 remaining in the first period. It would be the visitors' last field goal of the frame as Preble embarked on a 22-2 run.

A 3-pointer by Ethan Woodard gave Shawnee its first lead at 7-5 and UC coach Alex McCool called timeout. The hosts scored eight straight, courtesy of three separate Arrows, and led by 10. Mason Stewart was good on two free throws, but Dane Klapper beat the buzzer for an 18-7 Arrow lead after one.
PSHS got three early buckets in the next stanza, which led to another UC timeout at 5:28, the score now 24-7. The rest of the half was even offensively, with Coyle scoring in the paint and UC hitting 4 of 6 at the foul line. Preble ended the half with two FTs by Logan Hawley and a feed to Xavier Adams.
After a Wollyung triple a minute into the last half, McCool whistled for time with the score 32-15. Wollyung scored again on a drop step and Coyle dropped one in to make it 34-19.

Shawnee followed with a 10-0 flurry, the final six on consecutive transition layups for Cooper Roell. UC stopped play at 2:07, facing a 25-point deficit. UC settled down to get hoops from Wollyung, Coyle and Ty Elleman. A short flip-in by Mason Shrout gave the Arrows a 48-25 lead with one quarter left.
Grady Swafford started fourth-quarter scoring with a side 3. Preble scored the next six to make it 54-28. Ragen Bias hit from long range. In the final minutes, the teams played out the clock, though Stewart scored 7 of the game's last 9 points.

Wollyung led UC with 11 points; Coyle added 10 and Stewart 9. Shrout led all scorers with 18 and Roell put in 10.

UC was to play Twin Valley South Wednesday (result not available) before Tuesday's trip to Morristown.
