Patriots golf season ends at regional

Hamilton Southeastern (296), Cathedral (301) and Fishers (313) advanced out of last week’s IHSAA golf regional at the Players Club in Yorktown to play in the two-day IHSAA boys golf state finals at Prairie View Golf Club at Carmel on June 15 and 16.

Ryan Ford of Cathedral was medalist with 68.

The top three regional teams and top five individuals not on an advancing team at regional earn the right to play at the state finals.

“We did not have our best day,” UC coach Andrew McCashland said. “We played well in the practice round the day before, but unfortunately we did not shoot the same at the event.”

The Patriots advanced to the regional with a third-place finish in the Richmond Sectional behind Richmond and Connersville to advance.

“The course was difficult and the greens were very fast,” McCashland said. “It is also a difficult course to walk (very long) and getting to the next hole sometimes was quite a walk.”

Hot and humid weather conditions were not good golfing conditions.
“As we were making the turn it seemed to be the hottest,” McCashland said. “And it did rain for about 10 minutes.”

At regional, the top three Richmond Sectional teams finished in the lower half of the 18-team regional.

Richmond 336 put them in 12th place. Connersville edged out Union County by a single stroke (358-359) to finish 16th and 17th.

The Patriots’ 359 team score was led by Luke Yamashiro’s 83, followed by Cameron Woods at 85, Zeb Hall’s 95, Nick Orr’s 97 and Kaleb York at 105.
