Lady Pats runners-up at Northeastern invite

Union County and Winchester track and field teams battled it out at Northeastern last Friday night. At the final tally, Winchester edged the Lady Patriots, 111.5 to 106, to win this year’s Northeastern Knight Invitational.

In the boys’ events, the battle was not for top honors, but a battle just the same. Winchester finished one point in front of the Union County boys, 43-42, in a battle for sixth place.

Yorktown’s 161 points out-distanced a 68-68 tie between runners-up Tri and Northeastern.

Sophomore Carly McCashland the Lady Patriots with a first-place finish in the 400m run and was the lead-off runner in Union County’s second-place 4x400m relay team.

Senior Kalin Baumbauer, junior Kaleah Louden and sophomore Libby Page picked up valuable team points with second-place finishes.

Baumbauer ran second in the 100m and 200m races. Louden finished second in the 100m hurdle and 300m hurdle events and led-off the second-place 4x100m relay team. Page was second in the high jump event.

In the boys events, Union County’s multi-purpose track and field team member, Bradley Meadows, won the high jump, led-off the fifth-place 4x800m and eighth-place 4x100m relay teams and ran 12th in the 3200m run. Luke Paddock was second in the 400m run, ran the first leg of the fifth-place 4x400m relay team and was the second runner of the 4x800m relay team.

Next meet
Union County track and field teams head to Rushville for a tri meet with Tri on Thursday, May 6, (today) before entering the Tri-Eastern Conference meet at Hagerstown on Thursday, May 13.
IHSAA Sectionals at Connersville are Tuesday, May 18 (girls) and Thursday, May 20 (boys).
