BROOKVILLE – With rain threatening all evening and dampening the field over the last couple innings, the host Franklin County Lady Wildcats subdued Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference cohort Batesville Thursday, 8-2.

The game was briefly tied at 2 after a two-run fourth by the visitors, but the Wildcats quickly changed that.

Still standing in against starter Paige Oldham, FC got a one-out walk to Bree Bischoff. On the very next pitch, junior Anne Becker poked a ball over the fence in left-center field for a 4-2 home advantage. Kiersten Schell followed with a base hit to center but was erased on a stolen base attempt.

The fifth and sixth were both add-on innings for the FC offense. Senior Kloe Bolos led off the bottom of five by dropping an opposite-field triple into right; Maci Lake earned a run-batted in when she grounded out to shortstop.

The next two batters also reached for the Cats as Kassidy Schell walked and sophomore teammate Josie Rolfes legged out a groundball to third base. Oldham then got Michaela Ferman looking and Bischoff on a roller to second base.

Insurance came in the form of three extra runs in the seventh for the Wildcats. Becker walked to start the rally, replaced by Shaden Galyen as a courtesy runner. Oldham quickly got two outs, but Bolos reached on a hit-by-pitch. With two on, Lake stroked a single to left to make it 6-2 and put runners in scoring position. Ka. Schell brought both runs home by striking a base hit into center field. Rolfes was nailed in the back to reach first the hard way. A groundball to short kept it a 6-run lead for FC.

The FC offense then went to work as Ka. Schell drew a one-out walk. Rolfes hit one to third for a would-be routine fielder’s choice; both runners were safe, though, as Schell beat the throw. Ferman earned an RBI hit to left and Rolfes ended up at third; she’d score on Bischoff’s groundout to short. FC still had runners on the corner when BHS picked off the Wildcat runner at third.
Ferman pitched a 6-hitter while walking 3 and striking out 12.
