Lady Patriots go up, set a record at weekend Franklin County Invitational

Union County Lady Patriots softball continues to gain experience every time they take the field. Whether at practice, a single game, or a tournament, UC continues to improve and set records.

Following last week’s schedule, the Lady Pats defeated Randolph Southern, 13-1, and won two-of-three games at the Franklin County Invitational while rewriting the record book.

“It was a good day, long day for the girls,” UC coach Scott Gray said.
The Lady Patriots won, 10-6, over the Salem Lady Lions, blanked the Norwell Lady Knights, 9-0, and fell to Eastern Hancock,11-5, in the championship game.

“Bailey Mathews and Chloe Greene both pitched in the 10-6 win over Salem,” Gray said. “We won 9-0 over Norwell and got beat 11-5 by a really good Eastern Hancock state champion worthy team.”

UC shortstop, Annalea Adams, was the talk of the day with five home runs to bring her total homers to 14 this season and erase 10 home runs hit in 2017 by her sister Emma Adams.

According to Coach Gray...
“I think she was 6-for-6. First time she was at bat she was walked but five were home runs, line drives out of the ball park. And 10 RBI in two games and one in the third. She went from 9 home runs to 14 home runs in one day. She had a great day.”

Adams got a little help along the way from teammates.

“Sophia Knock had pretty good day,” Gray continued. “They (Salem) amazingly walked Annalea to get to Sophia. I think she was upset about it and swung on the first pitch and hit it out of the ball park for a 3-run home run.”

Other tournament scores were...
Salem 8, Franklin County 7.
Franklin County 13, Blackford 4.
Eastern Hancock 8, Franklin County 5.
Eastern Hancock 17, Blackford 1.
“The girls handled themselves well and played some good softball. A good experience – playing 3 games in a day is tough unless you play travel ball. So this was good for us.”
