Wildcats tie for second in conference

Unfortunately, Batesville had other ideas as the Bulldogs won the league outright on the last day (Saturday) by downing South Dearborn. SD and FC tied for runner-up with 10-4 records behind Batesville’s 11-3.
Senior Night was May 19 as the Wildcats held on to defeat the Lions 5-3. Joe Fields, Garrett Ertel, Dominick Reeves, Brady Brandenburg, Garrison Siedling and Conner Roleson were playing in their final home game. Fields pitched into the sixth inning and Ertel got the final four outs for a save. The latter also led the offense with two hits, with Remy Watters and Brandenburg collecting RBI.
Offense had the upper hand in the rematch Thursday at Rushville. The Cats outlasted the hosts 11-8. Ertel earned the win by going 5-plus on the mound, battling some defensive lapses behind him. Brandenburg finished on the hill. FC had an 8-0 lead after two complete; Fields, Chase Burton, Ertel and Watters had multi-hit efforts.
In a wrap-up game at Cambridge City Friday, the host Eagles shot ahead 8-2 after three. FC stormed back with three in the fourth and six more in the sixth en route to a 13-10 win. Alex Hokey had 3 hits for Lincoln and Noah Payne and Cam Gumm 2 RBI each.
FC (17-6) awaits the winner of Batesville and South Dearborn at the Lawrenceburg sectional. The game is set for Friday afternoon, 5:30 p.m.
