Union County led, 1-0, after the first inning and 2-0 after the fourth inning before Seton went ahead, 6-2, on six runs in the fifth inning. The Cardinals added another run in the sixth inning.
Trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, UC charged back with leadoff batter, Eric Burdine, reaching first when hit by pitch and courtesy runner Grady Swafford inserted at first base. After a Seton pitching change (Moynihan for Leverton), Hornung went to second on a passed ball, Mason Tipton was walked and Noah Taylor was hit by pitch to fill the bases.
Then with one out and two on, a balk scored Hornung and runners moved to second and third. Blake Richards followed with a single that scored Tipton and brought Taylor to third.
UC filled the bases again with a walk to VanWinkle. John Ridenour hit into a fielder’s choice that stopped Taylor heading for home and stopped the Patriots’ sixth inning comeback.
