Loretta Wheeler

Loretta (Lora) Jean Wheeler (nee Campbell) returned home to the lord on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond following a brief illness. Lora was born Feb. 28, 1939 in Cincinnati as the oldest of two children to Harold and Virginia Campbell. Lora completed high school at Connersville and later satisfied requirement to become a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) at Lamar State College in Port Arthur, Texas. A voracious reader, she passed on a love of books to her children and grandchildren. Her enthusiasm and wide range of interests led her to explore several careers throughout her life, including nurse, Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) program administrator, and restauranteur. Following retirement, Lora continued to serve her community through volunteer work with the Salvation Army and the local library. Lora loved spending time with her family, doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Connersville Baptist Temple church where she enjoyed attending Sunday School and services with her church family.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, are her husband Raymond Wheeler, a younger brother Dennis Campbell, and two grandsons, Will Dean Mann and Terry J. Morrow. She will be sadly missed by children Michael (Karen) Precht, Daniel (Valerie) Precht, Gina (Richie) Pflug, and Andrew (Heather) Morrow, fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her close friend Paul Snyder, as well as many friends throughout the community. Following Lora's wishes, a private visitation for family was held at the Showalter Blackwell Funeral Home. Friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville on November 23, 2021, at 2pm.
