Volleyball tryouts for the Team Indiana will be held Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 at the Union County Middle School. Students can still register for tryouts without any fees. Registration can be completed online at, teamindianavolleyball.com.
Team Indiana is a traveling team for girls who would like to take part in volleyball during the winter/spring months. The season will go from January to May. The team will have practices at least twice a week; and will take part in positional training on Sundays, when they aren't competing in a tournament. Most of Team Indiana's tournaments will take place in Indianapolis. This is the first year a satellite has been opened to the county for tryouts.
Liberty's director for Team Indiana is local volleyball legend Allison Kassens. If you have questions about involvement, contact her via email at [email protected] or you can reach her on Facebook. She has a 30 minute-plus informational video available for parents on her page.
Coach Kassens played volleyball at UCHS from 2012-16; in the process she won three sectional titles, three regional titles and was voted Palladium Item All Player of the Year, three separate years (2013-15). She also played on Team Indiana from 2009-13, along with Cincy Classics Volleyball Club from 2014-16. As UCHS varsity volleyball coach, she has a 19-9 record with one conference co-championship and a sectional title.
"Our goal with Team Indiana is to provide an elite experience to athletes. This would include having a consistent schedule that is known ahead of time. There will be no surprise in practice schedules or tournament schedules, as those would be posted as soon as teams are announced. Players will be given recruiting assistance, if they have a desire to play at the collegiate level. Coaches will also be held at a higher standard of coaching, to ensure all athletes are given that elite experience," Kassens described.
