Trio of runners on to regionals

Seniors Ben Maze and Adam Grant will represent the FC boys while freshman Esther George is the girls’ representative.
Running at the Connersville sectional this past Saturday morning, Maze led the Wildcat contingent by finishing 15th place in the boys race. His time of 19:00 was the fifth-lowest time of those young men not part of an advancing team. Northeastern won the boys side, followed by Hagerstown, Rushville, Richmond and Centerville. Grant was 7th in that category, running 19:23 to take the 29th spot overall.
George was 6th among the girls not fortunate enough to be on a top-5 qualifying team. The youngster raced home in 24:55, good for 27th overall. Centerville was crowned champs, trailed by New Castle, Richmond, Rushville and Hagerstown.
Twins Harmon and Hunter Marshall finished back-to-back in 47th and 48th, respectively. Harmon’s time was 20:56 and Hunter’s 20:58. Senior Eric Schwab’s career at FC ended with 56th place (21:58). Sophomore Owen Darwish was in 67th place (27:10).
Senior Katherine Apsley also had her last run for the Cats, taking 40th in 27:18. Junior Kenzie Rogers ran 31:44 to place 48th, followed closely by freshman Isabella Thiemann in 49th (31:46).
Regional starts 10:30 a.m. with the second race going out at 11:15 a.m. The same qualifying standards (top 5 teams, top 10 other individuals) apply to move on to semistate.
XC teams at invites
FC competed at Batesville and Greensburg tourneys to close out September. Batesville’s boys swept the invites while the BHS and East Central girls split the two events.
The boys were 5th at Batesville and 4th at Greensburg. The girls ran 6th at Greensburg and 7th at Batesville.
Maze was 16th at BHS (18:39) and ran 18:22 for 11th at Greensburg. Grant was 19th and 16th, respectively, with a time of 18:45 Thursday. Ha. and Hu. Marshall each had season lows at Greensburg, respective 19:12 and 20:18. Schwab had a season best at Batesville, racing 20:59. Darwish determined a tiebreak win over Lawrenceburg at the BHS run. He keeps dropping time, getting 22:52 Tuesday and 21:57 Thursday.
Only three FC girls competed at BHS. George had a career best, finishing 14th in 22:39.
The girls showed improvements at Greensburg. George placed 17th with a time of 22:57. Apsley finished in 26:37, which was an average time for her. Rogers had a great race and looked strong throughout, with a time of 29:01. Sophomore Moorea Nobbe improved greatly in this race. She ran a beautiful 8:23 paced first mile but wasn’t able to maintain. She finished in 30:38. Thiemann ran her best race ever. She finished with a time of 30:49.
