She was born on January 7, 1938 in Hamilton, Ohio to Carlis and Thelma Thomas Nixon. On September 10, 1954 she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Jerry Peters at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brookville.
They moved to Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee, where Jerry served in the United States Air Force. Norma and Jerry moved back home to Union County and then Oxford, Ohio where they raised their six children.
Norma was a bright, loyal, resilient, loving, social person who worked for a variety of local businesses in Oxford and ended up at Miami University as the administrative assistant at the Cole Service Building. She also managed the books for their Dairy Queen businesses.
Norma enjoyed her bowling league, sewing, cooking, and loved her involvement and friends in the Kappa Kappa Sigma social sorority.
Norma suffered a debilitating stroke at the age of 50. She fought through it with grace and dignity and almost always a smile on her face. Although she was unable to speak, she mastered the three words most important to her; ”I love you.” Norma loved… her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her extended family and friends. They were her reason for being and the reason she was up and dressed and ready to go every single day. That love was returned by many.
Norma is survived by her loving husband Jerry Peters of 67 years, her children Andy (Mary Ellen) Peters, Tony (Nancy) Peters, Kendrea (Mark) Hufford, Brooks Peters, Holly (Brian) Turner and Kirsten (John) Sommer, her 12 grandchildren, Krista (Chad) Miller, Amber (Dewan) Gibson, Luke Peters, Lindsey (Derek) Bauer, Sarah (Drew) Jones, Spencer Peters, Trevor Hughes, Brady (Caitie) Turner, Chace Turner, Kirby Sommer, Ben Sommer, Samantha Sommer, and eight great-grandchildren; Isla Miller, Nile Gibson, Cassius Gibson, Larke Gibson, Zeke Peters, Ethan Bauer, Charlotte Bauer and Fallon Jones, with two more on the way, and three loving sisters, Linda (Dennis) Hendrix, Karen Gesell and Janet Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Nixon.
Mass of Christian Burial for Norma will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Liberty where she was a member. Father Dustin Boehm will officiate.
Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home will be assisting the Peters family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
