He was born on the family farm near Liberty, on Sept. 3, 1932 to Everett and Florence Finch Higgins. Glen graduated from Short High School in 1950 and was recognized as the Star Farmer (FFA) of Indiana in 1950. He married Joyce Ruhl in 1953 while he was on active duty with the Air Force Reserves and she was completing studies as an RN. Glen graduated from Indiana University in 1956 with a BS in Business (Marketing) and then graduated in 1958 from Michigan State University with a MS in Agriculture Science (Food Distribution). After working for Marsh Supermarkets in Indiana and Ohio, and with Wingert's Food Center in Michigan, he retired from Super Foods after 16 years as both a buyer and director of retail operations. He and Joyce enjoyed wintering in Dunedin, Florida for 26 winters and had many happy moments golfing, including 3 holes in one.
Glen was a member of Mayville United Methodist Church, part of the Men's group, was a board member with Christmas in July, served on Mayville School Board of Education for eight years and was on the board of directors for Mayville State Bank for 22 years.
Glen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce; four children, Jayne (Jerel) Walters of Austin, Texas, David of Haslett, Michigan, Steve (Vicki) of Port Huron, Michigan, and Rob (Teri) of Mayville, Michigan; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Mayville United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Brown officiating.
Family will receive visitors on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 3:30-8 p.m. at Avram Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in Fremont Township Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Military Honors by American Legion Post #181, VFW Post #10884 and the National Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayville United Methodist Memorial Fund or McLaren Hospice.
