Stirn had a large fan base show up to support him in Carmel this past weekend, all wearing “From Sharptown to State” t-shirts in reference to his rural Franklin County home. He’s the first Wildcat to make it to the state’s final four in singles competition. Stirn went into his semifinal matchup on Saturday with a draw to play against Butler commit Aidan William of West Lafayette.
Stirn came into the match with a record of 24-0 on the year, William was 18-1.
In the first set, William took a 3-0 lead before Stirn was able to win his first game. William then took the next three, to win the set 6-1. In the second set, William took a 2-0 lead before Stirn got on the board. William then went on to take the next four to win 6-1. William went on to win the state championship over North Central’s Alex Antonopoulos 6-2, 6-4.
Stirn’s coach Derrike Kolb had this to say about the senior’s terrific run: “ He’s just an unbelievable player from a small town, he had a great run to get here. Jack has had tremendous improvement throughout the year; he is a great kid and we couldn’t be more proud of him.”
Stirn’s accomplishments this season include being named All-EIAC, EIAC Boys Tennis MVP, and sectional and regional champion.
