She was born on March 13, 1932, in East Bernstadt, Kentucky. She was the youngest of 19 children born to William Ernest Coldiron and Marriah Jane (Dollins) Coldiron.
On July 18, 1947 in London, Kentucky, she married J. Hugh Smith. They were able to spend 70 years together before he passed on May 10, 2018.
She was a dedicated Christian and a member of Liberty Pentecostal Church for over 50 years. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet. She will always be remembered for her excellent cooking skills.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Ron) Pennington, of Trafalgar, and Lisa (Troy) Mills, of Liberty; two sons, Ed (MaryBeth) Smith, of Liberty, and Larry (Christine Forman) Smith, of Brownstown, MI; sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Smith, ten brothers and 8 sisters, and one grandchild, Brian Pennington.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and spending time with them. She leaves a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Friends Cemetery c/o Steve Logue 1807 South Salem Rd, Liberty, IN 47353.
Private services will be held for Freda at the convenience of the family. Urban Winkler Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family at this time of need.
