Lifelong Connersville resident Mark J. Nobbe, 70, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.

Mark was born to Harry H. and Mary L. Welch Nobbe on October 5, 1950 in Connersville. He attended Short High School, graduating with the class of 1969. Mark enlisted in the United States Army, serving three tours in Vietnam and achieving the rank of specialist four. He received several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle) and was awarded the Purple Heart, which he respectfully declined. Upon returning from the war, Mark was employed as a telecommunication lineman for GTE, Verizon, and Frontier for more than 40 years. He married the former Denise McFarland on January 18, 1978 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Connersville. Mark has served as the county commissioner for three terms and county council for one term. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and was an advocate for the following programs: Future Farmers of America, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Research Hospital, and Boys Town. Mark enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, farming, fishing and spending every possible minute with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, Mark is survived by his sons and their wives: Gabe and Megan Nobbe of Connersville, Caleb and Amy Nobbe of Fishers, Gideon and Kaela Nobbe of Plymouth, Solomon and Lindsay Nobbe, Jed Nobbe, all of Connersville; daughters and their spouses: Andrea and David Wilson of Shelbyville, Esther and Joshua Tincher, Rachael Nobbe and her fiancé Christian, all of Connersville; honorary children: Richard Corum, Brian Edgecomb, both of Connersville; brothers: Don and Tammy Nobbe of Richmond, Melvin Nobbe of Clifton, Tony and Rhonda Nobbe of Richmond; sisters: Beth Moore of Soda Springs, Idaho, Marilyn Nobbe of Richmond, Kathy Shepard of Connersville; twenty grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service was be conducted Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Shawn Tipton officiating. Cremation followed. Friends visited the funeral home until the time of service.
