After the first week of the season, four Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference softball teams remain undefeated.
Rushville sits at 3-0 with a conference victory over Batesville. Connersville is sitting at 2-0 after collecting two shutout wins over Oldenburg Academy. Franklin County is undefeated with two shutout wins over Tri-Eastern Conference opponents. Greensburg is 1-0 after a 6-3 win over Madison.
South Dearborn is 3-1 and Lawrenceburg is 2-1, as both are over .500. East Central sits at 1-1, and Batesville brings up the rear, sitting at 0-2 on the young season.
Franklin County's Michaela Ferman left off where she was at last season and is atop the EIAC in strikeouts with 23 in 11 innings. She is tied with South Dearborn's Kori Cornett, who has 23 Ks in 20 innings in the circle this season. Rushville's Kara Chandler is currently third with 18 Ks in her 14 innings pitched.
There were two home runs in the first week, both from South Dearborn players. The long balls came from Chayse Hoskins and Cory Lee, who already has four extra base hits.
Two freshmen to watch out for this season are Rushville's Layla Shepherdson, who is leading her team in runs scored with five, and South Dearborn's Lakota Vincent, who is leading the conference in steals with four.
Upcoming games this week include a Wednesday matchup between Greensburg and South Dearborn and Thursday, the Lady Pirates will host Batesville. Most teams will be in action on Saturday with Lawrenceburg and Rushville squaring off in the only conference matchup.
