Last weekend’s Union County, Shenandoah double-header found the Patriots on the losing end of a 4-3 score and a big turn-around, 16-5, win in the second game. 

Down by four after six innings, the Pats staged a three-run comeback but fell short of the Raiders, 4-3. Doubles from Mason Stewart and Josh Klein and a Kyle Sams triple led the UC rally.

In the 16-5 victory, all nine Patriots collectively scored 16 runs on 10 hits;  Josh Klein was 3-for-4 at the plate and 3 runs scored. Grady Swafford and Seth Richardson went 2-for-4 and scored 2 runs.

The score was tied, 1-1 after the second inning. UC came up with three runs in the third and added a run in the fourth to take go up, 5-1. 

Shenandoah came within one of the Patriots, 5-4, with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to stay close.

Union County’s big inning was  a nine-run rally in the fifth inning that all but secured the win. The Raiders added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Patriots added a pair in the seventh to seal the game for good, 16-5.

Next opponents
Union County hosts Oldenburg Academy on Thursday, April 7 (today) and goes to Winchester Saturday, April 9, to begin Tri-Eastern Conference play.
