Charlene Phillips

Liberty resident, Charlene Phillips, 68, died Wednesday, April 6, at Bethesda North Hospital in Ohio.
Charlene was born to Charles R. Smith and Virgia C. Cheek Smith on October 16, 1953, in Hamilton, Ohio. She graduated in 1972 from Ross High School. Charlene married Bryan Phillips on October 28, 1977. She furthered her education in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University. She received her Masters in Education in 1994 and her Doctorate in 1998. Charlene taught at several schools over the years, including College Corner Union School and Miami University. She was an accomplished writer, publishing three sewing books. In addition, she was published in several magazines with articles about sewing and astronomy. Charlene was a faithful member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, serving the Lord as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Sacristan, leader of Adult Faith Formation and was a part of many church activities. Her faith touched many lives and her presence will be truly missed by her church family. Charlene enjoyed gardening, crafting, crocheting, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Charlene is survived by her father; her husband of forty-four years; children: Charles Phillips and his wife Tracy of Ross, Ohio, Shirley Phillips of Liberty; brother: Mike Smith and his wife Angie of Conway, Missouri; grandchildren: Chance Ledford, Corin Ledford, Margaret Phillips, and Robert Phillips; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In addition to her mother, Charlene is preceded in death by her son: Troy Ledford; brother: Calvin Smith; sisters: Joyce Smith and Monica Helton.
At the request of Charlene, a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Bridget's with Father Dustin presiding at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the church in Charlene's honor.
