The Union County boys and girls track and field teams opened the season last week with Winchester and Lincoln competing at Curry/Phenis Field. 

The UC girls’ 70 points finished the Lady Patriots first, Winchester second (61) and Lincoln third with 19 points.

The Lincoln boys’ 65 points won the boys meet. The Union County boys had 46 points to edge out third place Winchester’s 44 points.

Four Lady Patriots won blue ribbons in six events. Freshman Katie McCashland placed first in three individual events – 100m dash, 400m run and long jump along with the 100m relay team and 3200m relay team. 

Johanna Nelson ran first in the 3200m run, Brooklyn  Vaulthier won the shot put and Peyton Shepler’s throw in the discus was a winner. The Patriot boys’ 400m relay team came home with blue ribbons.

The UC boys earned four blue ribbon finishes – Ty Elleman won the 800m hurdles, Xander Garwood ran first in the 200m, Logan  Harris won the long jump and Reece Watterson had a first-place throw in the discus.

Next meets
 The UC track and field teams are at Centerville today, Thursday, April 14, and at Hagerstown Monday, April 18.

Discus - Reece Watterson 1st, 36.0.

 Shot put - Reece Watterson 3rd, 36.0; Lilly Witter 5th, 29-10.
