The Friends of Franklin County Animal Shelter began a Gofundme page “Medical Funds for Badger” on April 15 with a goal of $2,500. As of April 19, the goal was met and exceeded.
Badger was a stray that showed up at someone’s house and the gentleman soon came to notice something was seriously wrong with him and shared his concern on Facebook. The shelter saw the post and offered help. Badger was immediately taken to the vet where it was discovered Badger had been hit by a car and had a serious break to his jaw. Beyond the break, Badger’s jaw was also seriously infected. The entire staff at the hospital did everything to make him as comfortable as possible during his fragile state. A three-hour surgery was needed to get him on the road to recovery.
“Badger has won all the employee’s hearts at the vet clinic with his sweet personality,” GoFundMe organizer Therese Parker shared. “He was super dehydrated and wouldn’t eat, he was in so much pain, only 2-years-old. He’s already had a rough start to life, and we are trying to make it the best life he could have from here on out.”
Beyond the initial costs for Badger’s care, he will also be boarded at the clinic for two-weeks to closely monitor his condition. “This is not cheap, and we need help with the funds,” Parker explained. “We are so happy how much the community has helped us with Badger. The outcome of the GoFundMe is amazing, we have almost reached our goal and we can’t thank you enough.”
The Friends of Franklin County Animal Shelter have been keeping the community updated on Badger and shared, “He is doing good, he’s eating, drinking some, and overall is powering through this.”
