A mural to honor the late Bob Jenkins has a GoFundMe page set up and is well on its way to its goal. Union County Development Corporation (UCDC) Director Melissa Browning started the page on April 16, with a goal of $32,000. Browning stated, “We are working with renowned artist Pamela Bliss to create this work of art. Racer.com has got involved and his post has been shared over 800 times already.”
The planned mural will honor Jenkins’ life and encourage the youth to “Dare to Dream” that all things in life are possible. The funds raised will be used to compensate Bliss and leave enough for any required maintenance over time. Tim Woodruff made the first donation of $5000 although it's not listed on the GoFundMe page, according to Browning. She said "Tim has been all in for the mural since the idea started, and has done a great job helping us to make sure it gets completed."
The GoFundMe page is currently being shared around social media. Union County residents are pouring in the donations. Some commisioners and other local board members have chipped in according the the donors listed on the site. Others donating are friends of Jenkins and IndyCar fans. The total was $10,595 as of Monday afternoon. Just shy of 1/3 the total needed. As of Tuesday, another $3000 had been donated, including a $1000 donation by Nascar legend Dale Jarrett.
Jenkins was the “Voice of the Indy 500” and called Liberty his hometown. Lost to brain cancer in August, Bob spent his life following his dream. Browning started the page to get funding for the two-story mural planned for Woodruffs Supermarket. " I was asked by the head of the Indy Racing League to set up a page and he would help to reach the goal," said Browning. She added, “The idea began months ago, Bob never forgot where he came from, and we want to make sure he is not forgotten.”
