School board met on April 11

The Franklin County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees met April 11.
Retired local teacher Dr. Bob Brewer stated he feels closing any more schools in the district is a bad idea. The comment followed an earlier report by consultants Lancer + Beebe, LLC that the corporation would benefit from closing elementary schools in Mt. Carmel and Laurel.
The board has gone forward with a solar contract signed recently with Sun FundED, Noblesville, for a 25-year commitment. The installation will be built on the schools’ Smith Road property and will send solar energy to both the high school and middle school. Currently, there’s no timetable for when the new purchase goes live.
Superintendent Tammy Chavis’ contract was unanimously approved for another three years, though without pay increase.
The corporation briefly operated in the red during March but early returns from county property taxes have taken the Operations Fund back to the positive side.
The following personnel changes were approved: Margaret Lake-secretary at MCS; Rachael Dorrel-media specialist at FCMS and FCHS; Terri Hornberger- agriculture education and FFA co-sponsor at FCHS; Bria Cox and Amanda Allen bus aides; Erica Hunter, LES paraprofessional resigned.
