Union County girls basketball suffered a pair of Tri-Eastern Conference setbacks last week as the Lady Pats took a 49-27 hit at Tri High Wednesday and were edged 48-44 at home against Winchester Saturday.
Senior Bailey Parham dropped 20 points on the Patriots in the midweek contest as the unbeaten Lady Titans pulled away. Tri is one of the top two Class A programs in the state this winter.
Sophomore Katie McCashland led the UC offense with 13 tallies on five field goals (three triples). Senior Shelby Hill had four points as Tri essentially shut down the inside game. Freshman Nora Robinson contributed three markers while sophomores Ally Gray and Peityn Gillman and senior Carly McCashland each scored two.
The game with the Lady Golden Falcons was tied at 10 apiece after eight minutes. Winchester then led by six points at halftime, 23-17. UC outscored the Falcons in the third quarter, 14-12, before a 13-13 stalemate in the fourth.
Three Patriots landed in double figures as Hill had 13 points, Katie McCashland 12 and senior Brooke Fields 10. Carly McCashland's two bombs gave her six points while a 3-pointer accounted for Gray's scoring. K. McCashland and Fields added two long balls apiece and Hill stepped out for one as well.
UC (5-6, 1-3) laced them up Dec. 21 vs. Blue River Valley but the result was not available by press time. The girls then have an 8-day break.
