MONROVIA – The Bulldog Holiday Classic at Monrovia in Morgan County didn't treat the Union County Patriots all too well on opening day Tuesday.
First, the host Bulldogs played the Patriot cagers to a 51-49 defeat in game one; then it was a crushing 88-44 defeat at the hands of Purdue Poly Englewood, a technical school located in Indianapolis.
Brad Meadows matched Monrovia's Jayden Jones with three makes from behind the arc in the back-and-forth opener. Ty Elleman added a pair of deep balls, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds. Joshua Klein came up with four steals, also scoring six points. Nick Watterson had eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and a pair of pilfers. Meadows led with 11 points, four rebounds and a theft. Statistics for game two were not available.
UC (2-8) was scheduled to face Rising Sun in day two of the tournament Wednesday, but this result was not available at time of print. A 9-day winter break follows before a trip to neighboring Franklin County Jan. 6.
