RICHMOND – The Franklin County wrestling team saw mixed results at Saturday's Richmond Regional inside the Tiernan Center.

The good news is certainly a trio of Wildcats advancing to this Saturday's semistate at New Castle Fieldhouse while the not-so-good is three others saw their seasons end.

FC placed 11th out of 19 schools with 31 points. East Central comfortably won the team title with 175, boasting no fewer than seven regional champs.
Those still alive in the state tournament are freshmen Colin Troyer and Cole Freese and senior Andrew Merritt.

Troyer (29-4) needed just 24 seconds to pin Hagerstown's Rizael Payne in the 106-pound class. The win put him in the semifinals and guaranteed advancement. The frosh then defeated Centerville's Kyle Sheard 11-4 to reach the finals. A tough Heather Crull of Northeastern awaited him there; the Knight freshman improved to 42-2 by pinning Troyer in 47 seconds.

Freese (27-11) earned his way to semistate, though a forfeit win helped in the opening round. The 113-pounder then suffered a pin to class champion Carson Whitley of Union County late in the first period. Freese fell 6-2 in the consolation match to Centerville's Bryson Hale.

Merritt (30-8) kept his last season alive in the 132 bracket, recording a first-period pin over Cambridge City Lincoln's Gage Sherwood. Merritt battled eventual champ Brevan Thrine of New Castle through regulation, coming up short 8-1. The Wildcat then lost to Centerville's Oshea Phillips in the first overtime segment while trying to take third place.

Sophomore 160-lb. Breck Bohman (24-14) had a tough assignment in round one, facing Wyatt Maiden of New Castle. Bohman gave it everything but fell 9-6. Charlie Euson of the champion East Central Trojans was 160 champ.

At 220, junior Lendon Sizemore (21-14) was matched with Michael Henderson of New Castle. Sizemore lasted into the second period but suffered a pin. EC's Brayden Rouse won the division. Freshman Avery Crouch (21-14) entered the 126 class, getting pinned by Northeastern's Jackson Ramsey in the second period. Unbeaten Blake Wolf of EC rolled to the title.

Other regional champs were Jesus Aquino-Morales (120), Dylan Lengerich of EC (138), once-beaten Rider Searcy of EC (145), undefeated Corbin Walston of Lawrenceburg (152), Josh Mobley of Batesville (170), David Nash of EC (182), Ryan Bovard of EC (195) and unbeaten Jackson Goodall of LHS (285).
Each Wildcat will need to win two matches Saturday to qualify for the state finals.
