Although Union County won the first half battle, 29-18, Union City shut down the Patriots with a 44-18 second half run to post a Tri-Eastern Conference victory.

Union County opened with strong defense in the lane from Mason Stewart and Reece Watterson. The Patriots out-rebounded the Indians, 6 to 2, in the first quarter and 4-2 in the second. Offensively,  four Patriots (Elleman, Bias, Stewart, Watterson)  contributed to the 16-12 first quarter lead.

Both teams’ offense fell off the mark in the second period but still found Union County out front, 29-18, at halftime.

The Indians went on the warpath late in the third quarter with a sophomore and senior 3-point shooters leading the way. The 3-point senior duo combined for six-of-eight 3s in the third period. Sophomore Conner Walser canned four and Rylan Mote hit two.

Union County failed to  recover from Union City’s  26-10 third quarter barrage of 3s in the third quarter.   

Three Indians led all scoring – Walser finished with 23 points, Camden LaFuze 17 and Mote added 13.

Mason Stewart led Union County with 12 points and eight rebounds.

JV wins big
Coach Brady Meier’s Junior Patriots came out strong and stayed strong to defeat Union City 49-29.

Sophomore Gavin Davis was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points.
