The short-handed Union County wrestling team fell to Centerville, 58-15 last week but here is the rest of the story...

Five-of-nine UC wrestlers were eligible to compete. The Patriots forfeited the eight weight classes and Centerville earned six points for each UC forfeit.
UC’s five head-to-head matches could yield up to 30 points. It was up to Cal Rudnick, Jesus Aquino-Morales, Tanner Burns, Jordan Takara and Nate Reffitt.

A pin win nets six points. A win by decision varies from 3 to 5 points depending on total points. The Patriots won three matches – one by decision and two pin wins.

UC’s first wrestler...A lightweight freshman, Cal Rudnick won a 14-13 decision over Centerville junior Bryson Hale. UC win.

“How about Cal Rudnick!” UC coach AJ Bryson said. “He weighed in at 98 lbs. and wrestled up in the 113 lb. weight class and WON!”

UC’s second wrestler... Jesus Aquino-Morales (120) pinned Conner Frazier in the first round. UC win.

UC’s third wrestler... Freshman Tanner Burns lost a 11-3 decision to Myron Nocton at 126 lbs.

UC’s fourth wrestler... Junior Jordan Takara (152) pinned Luke Cannarella early in the second round.

UC’s fifth wrestler... Nate Reffitt was pinned by Centerville senior Sebastian Collins.

Head-to-head, Union County defeated Centerville, 15-10.

“That doesn’t surprise me,” Bryson said. “These guys are wrestling well.”
