Union County surrendered a 53-38 loss to the Tri High Titans last week at Roy E. Stevens Gymnasium. The Titans’ TEC record improved to 3-0. UC stands at 1-2.

Union County scored first and led briefly before junior Daniel Davis began his game-high 17-point run. The 6’4 guard scored nine points to lead the Titans to a 16-6 lead.

Tri added another 11 points in the second quarter to go out front, 27-13.

“We didn’t do a lot of stuff right tonight,” UC coach Alex McCool said. “When that happens, you’re going to find yourself on the losing end of a basketball game.”

UC came back in the second half to score in double figures in both quarters, but couldn’t match the talented Titans.

“If you choose not to play defense, you’re not going to win and if you refuse to block out, you’re not going to win,” McCool said. “You need offensive rebounds and communicate on defense.”

The Pats’ best scoring came in the third period when 15 points went into the scorebook. Tri’s best scoring effort came after halftime with a 17-point period when another junior (forward Parker Burk) joined Davis in double figures. The 6’4 Titan finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Senior Keaghan Coyle’s 11 points led the Patriots. Mason Stewart and Reece Watterson helped out with four rebounds each.

JV Pats wins by 12

UC and Tri JV Teams played to a 5-5 tie score after the first quarter but UC jumped into double figures (13) before doubling Tri’s nine points at halftime (18-9). The low scoring third quarter put UC in front 23-11. The JV Pats rode to a 12-point, 34-22, win at the buzzer.
