Originally from White Oak, Anna Mae and her family moved to St. Peter's when she was in the 7th grade. Anna Mae enjoyed sewing and made most of her clothing, as well as many of her children's clothing. She and her daughter Jean shared a talent for sewing and together they made Jean's wedding dress. Through the Franklin County Homemakers, they entered the dress into the State Fair competition and won Grand Champion. Anna Mae also made tree skirts, Christmas stockings and Barbie wedding dresses for her granddaughters. Hand appliqued quilts was another of Anna Mae's talents and every summer she would donate one for the Labor Day festival at St. Peter's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards at the Brookville Senior Center and called bingo at New Alsace legion. She was a member of St. Peter's Ladies Sodality, the Daughters of Isabella in Batesville, and with the Franklin County Homemakers, who made teddy bears for the life squad to hand out to children.
Anna Mae is survived by her children: Mary (James) Mason of St. Peter's, Donald (Sandy) Kocher of Brookville, James Kocher of Sunman, Kathleen Kocher of Elkton, Maryland, Leroy (Vanessa Shaw) Kocher of Sunman and Jean (Raymond) Werner of Olden-burg; grandchildren: Timothy Mason, Jessica (Javier) Hernandez, Daniel Mason, Kaitlin, Evan and Brett Kocher, Renee (Anthony) Sizemore, Brayden, Bryn and Breann Kocher, Jason, Beth, Rick and Melanie Werner; great-grand-children: Diego Hernandez, Landon, Ashton, Angelina, Leah and Zane Size-more. Anna Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, William Kocher, her parents Emma and Robert Schwab, and her brothers Francis, Victor, Paul and Herman Schwab, and sister Lucy Smith.
Services for Anna Mae were held on Thursday, Feb. 17 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with burial immediately following at St. Michael Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church or the Humane Society of Brookville and can be mailed to Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home at 25615 State Rt. 1, Guilford, IN 47022.
